Barry Kent MacKay Project Highlights

This project brought together the diverse body of work of an environmentally-focused Canadian artist, author, and advocate into a single, cohesive digital presence. The primary challenge was unifying multiple disciplines - long-form writing, visual art and advocacy - within a structure that feels intentional rather than fragmented.

We approached the site architecture by creating distinct but connected pathways for each type of work. Essays are presented in a format that encourages a deeper dive, with minimal distraction and a focus on clarity and flow. The portfolio of paintings emphasizes visual impact and easy exploration. Rather than implementing a traditional e-commerce system, the sales process is facilitated through direct inquiry, aligning with the artist’s preference for a relationship-driven approach.

The design balances restraint and character, allowing the work itself to take precedence while reinforcing the artist’s life-long environmental focus. A clear, accessible biography ties these elements together, providing context for both the creative work and the advocacy behind it.

Built on Squarespace, the result is a streamlined portfolio site that functions as both a gallery and a publishing platform. It brings together a large body of work in a way that is easy to navigate, maintain and grow over time.
